Sierra Chart custom study · Windows · 64-bit
Installing Position Size Calculator Pro
One file, copied into one folder. Five minutes from download to a position sized and anchored on your chart.
Before you start
| Platform | Sierra Chart, 64-bit. Built and tested on version 2800; the SDK it compiles against supports back to 2155 |
| Operating system | Windows |
| You receive | PositionSizeCalculatorPro_64.dll |
| Data feed | Any. The study reads prices from the chart it sits on. |
| Trading connection | None required — this study never places, modifies or cancels orders. |
Install
Sierra Chart holds custom study files open while it runs, so it has to be closed before the file is copied in.
-
Close Sierra Chart
Fully exit — not just the chart window. If it's running, Windows will refuse to write the file.
-
Find your Sierra Chart
DatafolderIt sits inside your installation folder. If you've never changed it:
C:\SierraChart\Data\Not sure? In Sierra Chart,
Global Settings » General Settings » Pathsshows the Data Files Folder. -
Copy the file in
Put
PositionSizeCalculatorPro_64.dlldirectly into that folder. Don't create a subfolder, and don't rename it — Sierra Chart finds studies by scanning this folder for DLLs. -
Start Sierra Chart and open a chart
Any symbol and bar period. The study loads automatically at startup.

Add the study

Check this one setting first
Everything the tool tells you about money runs through it.
The study reads Currency Value Per Tick from your chart. If that value is wrong, every figure is wrong by the same factor — and nothing warns you, because the numbers still look plausible.
ES is 12.50. MES is 1.25. If you trade micros on a chart set up for the full-size contract, your risk is being reported ten times too large.
Symbol: Tick Size Override and Symbol: Currency Value Per Tick Override. Leave them at 0 to use the chart's own values.Driving it
It stays where you put it
The tool is anchored to a candle. New bars print to its right and it doesn't follow. Drag the entry handle sideways and it snaps to whichever candle you drop it on — put it on the bar you actually entered, and you can see how the trade played out against your levels.
Handles, not lines
The triangles beside each level are the grab points. The grey H button hides them all for a clean view, and brings them back when pressed again — nothing about the setup changes either way. Entry moves the whole setup — drag it sideways and everything travels with it, box width included, re-anchoring to whichever candle you drop it on. Stop and Target move up and down. The triangle on the right edge stretches the box. The lines themselves are locked, so nothing else on the chart competes for your click. Nothing can be dragged across the entry — use the flip button to change direction.
The buttons
Row one is the position: red X hides the tool · blue H switches to the clean view · green ↕ flips between long and short · + and − change the position size.
Row two is how the size is decided: ≈ ↕ ⟳ switch between Variable Risk, Fixed Risk and Auto Size, and T+ adds a target.
Below that, once you have more than one target, each gets its own row — a yellow Tn chip and a + − pair to adjust that target's share of the position. Step a share down to nothing and the target is removed.
H is the one switch worth knowing. Press it and the grab handles come off the chart and every button but X and H comes off the cluster, leaving the box to be read on its own. Press it again and everything is back. Nothing about the setup changes either way.
Hiding it doesn't reset it
The red X takes the tool off the chart and keeps everything: mode, contract count, number of targets, stop and target distances, box width. Right-click to bring it back exactly as you left it.
It can sit ahead of the market
Drag the entry handle into the empty space to the right of the last candle and the tool goes with it — useful for a level you're waiting on. The width handle keeps working out there too.
Three sizing modes
Variable Risk — drag stop and targets where you want them; the resulting risk is calculated. Fixed Risk — risk is held constant; changing size moves the stop and targets to keep it there. Auto Size — place your stop and the contract count is solved from your risk amount; the + − buttons step the risk amount instead.
Right-click menu
One entry: Position Size Calculator Pro. It places the tool at the exact point you right-clicked — that candle, that price — carrying your stop and target distances with it. If you'd hidden the tool, this brings it back.
Appearance
The box is drawn as filled bands, one per level, and the edges where they meet are what mark the entry and each target. Box: Reward Fill Color and Box: Risk Fill Color set both the fill and its border; Box: Fill Transparency controls how much of the candles shows through. Everything is under Inputs, grouped as Sizing, Targets, Box, Labels, Handles, Buttons, Symbol and Advanced — each with a description shown when you select it.
If something looks wrong
The study isn't in the list
The file is in the wrong folder, or Sierra Chart was open when it was copied. Close it, confirm the DLL is directly inside \Data\, and start again.
A button shows an empty box
Your font doesn't carry that symbol. Either set Buttons: Font Face to a font that does — Segoe UI Symbol is the default and carries all four — or type any character you like into that button's own symbol input.
Buttons don't respond
Select the Pointer tool (Tools » Pointer). Sierra Chart only delivers mouse events to studies when the Pointer, Chart Values or Hand tool is active — a platform rule, not a setting.
The bottom label overlaps the buttons
Raise Buttons: Offset Below Lowest Level (Pixels). Larger label text needs more clearance.
I can't find it on the chart
It's anchored, so if you've scrolled forward it may be off to the left. Right-click where you want it and choose Position Size Calculator Pro — it moves there, settings intact.
Two copies on one chart interfere
Give the second one a different Advanced: Drawing Line Number Base — for example 800000. Both copies otherwise address the same chart drawings.
