What it does

Built by a trader who kept looking away from the chart.

Most intraday traders do it all day: read the clock against the higher timeframe, switch charts to see how its candle is forming, check a calendar tab for the next release. I trade index futures off the 5 minute with the 15, the hourly and the 4 hour in mind, and I kept losing the chart to those three glances. Market Watch is the panel I wanted in the corner instead. It does not predict anything. It puts the information you already act on where you act.

The panel at its default size on a 5 minute chart, on the same clock as above. The top arrow opens the news list, the bottom one the candle strip; the middle button is the grip.

When does the 15 minute close? And the hourly?

One column per timeframe, each counting down to its own bar close and turning amber in the last thirty seconds. The boundaries come from your chart's Session Times, so the 30M column closes where your 30 minute chart does, in any time zone. Outside the sessions and over the CME weekend the columns read Closed.

A 5 minute entry two minutes before the hourly closes is a different trade from the same entry two minutes after it. The time left on the timeframes above yours, without leaving the chart, changes when you press the button and when you wait.

FAQ

Straight answers, the way a trader asks.

What does Market Watch put on my chart?

A small panel, painted over the chart in screen pixels. Top row: the next economic release and a countdown to it, coloured by impact. Middle: one column per timeframe you enable, up to six from 1 minute to 4 hours, each with the time left on its bar. Bottom, when you open it: the last three candles of each of those timeframes. Three buttons beside it open the news list, open the candle strip, and pick the whole panel up so you can drop it anywhere.

Does it draw on the chart or move my price scale?

No. It is painted in pixels, not drawn as chart objects, so it never moves with the price scale, never leaves marks on the chart, and never appears in your drawings list. It never places, modifies or cancels an order.

Where does the news come from?

ForexFactory's weekly economic calendar, read from the JSON feed they publish. The study downloads it once an hour, shares it between every chart and chartbook, and keeps a copy on disk so a restart shows the list at once. You choose the economies by currency code, USD by default, and the minimum impact to list. Every event time is converted to your chart's time zone with Sierra Chart's own conversion.

What if ForexFactory changes or withdraws the feed?

The feed address is a setting, so it can be repointed without an update. Without a calendar the news row reads News unavailable and everything else, the countdowns and the candles, keeps working. The calendar is the only thing the study downloads.

Will the countdowns match my chart in my time zone?

Yes. The study uses the chart's own clock and the chart's Session Times, including the Evening Session and New Bar at Session Start, so it closes a bar exactly where Sierra Chart closes it. A release at 08:30 New York shows as 14:30 on a Paris chart and 22:30 on a Tokyo chart. The weekend is judged in New York time for CME Globex by default, so the panel reads Closed at the right moment in Sydney as well as Chicago; two other rules cover other exchanges and markets that never close.

Does it work in Chart Replay?

Everything follows the replay clock: the countdowns count to the bars the replay is forming, the news row counts to the releases as they were that day, and the candle strip shows the three bars that ended at the replay moment. Replay a release you missed and the panel behaves as it would have live. The candle strip reaches back as far as the hidden charts load, two days by default and up to sixty by setting.

Does it work on tick, range, volume or Renko charts?

Yes. The countdowns come from the clock and the Session Times, not from the chart's bars, so they run the same on any chart type. The candle strip reads minute-based hidden charts, so it works too. The only thing that changes is the optional diagnostics row, which reads not time-based because there is no chart period to compare against.

What are the hidden charts?

Sierra Chart builds bars; a study cannot. So when you first open the candle strip the study asks Sierra Chart to open one hidden chart per enabled timeframe, for the chart's symbol, with two days of history. They appear in the CW menu as [Hidden] and are saved with your chartbook. Change symbol and the study closes the ones it opened and opens new ones. Remove the study and they stay; close them from the CW menu if you no longer want them. They are small.

Which timeframes can it show?

Six slots, each set to one of 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15 or 30 minutes, 1, 2 or 4 hours, or off. The defaults are 1M, 5M, 15M, 30M, 1H and 4H. Turn slots off and the panel loses columns; with one slot left it becomes a single large countdown.

Can I run it alongside Position Size Calculator?

Yes. They are separate studies with nothing in common on the chart: one draws a box anchored to a candle, the other paints a panel in a corner. Add both to the same chart and each stays out of the other's way.

Which Sierra Chart version do I need?

Sierra Chart 2941 or later, 64-bit, on Windows. Help › About shows your version; if yours is older, Help › Download Current Version updates it for free. Built and tested on 2947. One file, nothing else to install.

Does it need an internet connection?

Only for the calendar, once an hour. The countdowns and the candle strip work without one.

What about alerts?

Two sounds, both Sierra Chart's own numbered alert sounds. One before a release at or above the impact you choose, sixty seconds ahead by default, played once per release however many charts carry the study. One before the close of a timeframe you choose, ten seconds ahead by default, off until you turn it on. Neither opens the Alert Manager or writes a chart alert.

What are the known limits?

Ten, all stated here before you buy. The buttons need the Pointer tool: Sierra Chart delivers mouse events to a study only while Pointer, Chart Values or Hand is the active tool. With a drawing tool selected the three buttons do nothing. The settings window always works. The news comes from a third party: ForexFactory publishes the feed and can change or withdraw it. The address is a setting, so it can be repointed without an update. Without it the news row reads News unavailable and everything else keeps working. Hidden charts outlive the study: Removing the study does not close the charts it opened. They are saved in the chartbook and cost little; close them from the CW menu if you no longer want them. The weekend rule is a preset: CME Globex hours in New York time by default, right for CME futures anywhere on earth. Other exchanges choose the chart-time weekend or no rule. There is no per-exchange holiday calendar: a market closed on a weekday shows a countdown until your Session Times say otherwise. Include Columns with No Data must be off: That chart setting changes how Sierra Chart aligns day-session bars and a study cannot see it. With it on, the 30M, 1H and 4H columns would disagree with the chart, and the study would say so in the Message Log. Turn it off, or use Clock alignment. The self-check needs a time-based chart: On a tick, range or Renko chart the countdowns run normally, but the study cannot compare its boundaries with the chart's bars because the chart has no time period. The diagnostics row says not time-based. Replay depth is bounded by history: The candle strip can only show a replay moment the hidden charts still hold: two days by default, up to sixty by setting. Countdowns and news have no such limit. The feed rolls over on Sunday: ForexFactory's weekly feed switches to the new week on Sunday, New York time. A trader whose Monday morning is Sunday evening in New York may see an empty list for up to an hour, until the next download. Text outside the Latin alphabet: Event titles arrive as UTF-8 and are drawn with the font you choose. A font without the glyphs shows boxes. Consolas, the default, covers every title ForexFactory has published so far. One second is the finest step: Countdowns show whole seconds and redraw as often as the chart does. Set Chart Update Interval to 1000 ms or less; the study writes one line in the Message Log if it is slower.

How do I get the file after paying?

Immediately. The page after checkout has the download button, and the same link is emailed to you. The download is a ZIP holding MarketWatch_64.dll, a short readme and a licence registered to your order. Unzip it, copy the DLL into your Sierra Chart Data folder with Sierra Chart closed, start it, and add the study from the Studies list.

Where is the manual?

The setup guide is public. The full reference comes with your purchase: all 53 settings, the countdown rule, the calendar, the hidden charts, every Message Log line, the limits, and the troubleshooting guide. It is linked in your order email and on the confirmation page; if you lose the link, the recovery page sends a new one.

Can I use it on more than one computer?

Yes, on the machines you personally trade from. The licence is for one trader. Sharing, reselling or redistributing the file is not allowed.

Do I get updates?

Yes. Bug fixes and updates are free; a fresh download link is sent to the email you paid with.

Is there a trial or a refund?

Neither. It is a digital download delivered instantly, so there are no refunds; that is why the working copy at the top of this page, the setup guide and the limits are all public before you buy. If the study will not load on a supported Sierra Chart install, contact support and we will get it working. Payment runs through Stripe's Link, which has its own consumer rules and may refund within 60 days in specific cases.

Why does the checkout add tax?

Stripe acts as the seller of record and adds the sales tax, VAT or GST your billing address requires, then remits it to the tax authority. The price on this page is before tax. Your card statement will show LINK.COM* followed by our name.

Is there any licence key, login or phoning home?

No key and no login. The only thing the study ever downloads is the public ForexFactory calendar, once an hour, and nothing about you is sent anywhere.
